14 ideas for Valencian design gifts

Once again, from the Fundació del Disseny, we want to contribute our bit to the search -sometimes not so easy- for the perfect gift for family, friends, couples or invisible friends. A list that has already become a tradition that this year, more than ever, wants to publicize brands and Valencian design professionals, in many cases through solidarity initiatives or simply to support after the impact of the dana on their businesses. But not only. In these fourteen ideas there are gifts from the publishing sector, decorative, sustainable or simply smell València.

Wooden furniture – from Naan Furniture
Naan Furniture is one of the many companies that discovered the mud in its warehouse, but that continue forward almost stronger than before. Committed to the environment, the pieces made with quality and sustainable materials (PEF certified), are designed and manufactured in Sedaví (València) by expert cabinetmakers. Simple and timeless furniture, with the Mediterranean lattice as the protagonist.
“Ecotopía. Imagining the future to change the present” a comic book – by Darío Adanti, Flavita Banana, Miguel Brieva, Harkaitz Cano and Iñaki Landa, Miguel Ángel Giner Bou and Cristina Durán, Núria Tamarit, Josune Urrutia.
An idea of Greenpeace and a publishing house, Astiberri, together with a group of illustrators and comic book writers have created this set of stories with the aim of imagining the future to change the present. “Can you imagine the whole planet greening up, ecosystems recovering, cities becoming livable and full of life by opting for well-being and balance instead of competition and speed? Can you imagine working a few hours a day and for the benefit of the common good, in activities that truly give meaning to our lives? All of this could be real, in not too long, if we start to project our spirit in that direction”.
The glass rings – by Boira Glass
After the impact of the dana, Palm Studio, CRC Projects, Patricia Moreno and Cartulina helped the brand of rings made of glass, Boira Glass, to photograph the beauty of the pieces with the aim of reviving its image and its activity. The creative universe of Cova Ferrer, its creator, moves between fairies, mermaids and witches, trying to “recreate magical forms (and translucent) that simulate water movement.
The beehive – by Teulat Editions and Lara Ordoñez
Teulat Editions makes us fall in love again with a piece, together with artist Lara Ordoñez, that takes us back to nature, to the concept of home as an intimate space. “The piece is composed of a curved wire structure that holds a small nest woven with natural fibers”.
“Scenes of Valencian design” – published by Fundació del Disseny
The book “Scenes of Valencian Design” brings together, through fourteen chapters, the lesser-known anecdotes of a selection of figures, objects and milestones to offer the reader a broad and general vision of the agents, professionals, spaces and diverse concepts that make Valencia a reference in the creative sector. This first volume is written by Eugenio Viñas and Lidia Caro, and designed by Ibán Ramón.
Personalized stamps – by Selloa
Stamp a mark on a fabric, a signature on a paper, an ex-libris on a book or a logo in the still wet mud. Selloa creates personalized stamps while highlighting tradition and a taste for small details. A delicate and handcrafted way to “leave your mark on the world”.
The collect bag – from Closca by Canussa Lab
Canussa Lab is a specialist in fashion and circular innovation and Closca is a reference in functional design. Together, these brands have just launched this functional bag that differs from the rest by its space reserved for collecting plastics that we can find on our way. And it is made of recycled plastic, making it a symbol of commitment to the environment #NotMyTrashButMyPlanet.
“Orange blossom” candle – by Loewe with Fundación Todolí
The non-profit organization, Todolí Citrus Fundació (Palmera, València) promotes the study, awareness and preservation of more than 400 varieties of citrus trees and varieties of citrus fruits. Its exceptional nature has been photographed in Loewe‘s campaigns, in its line of home fragrances, specifically its earthy orange blossom fragrance candle.
Cremaet toolkit – by Esmorzaret
In Esmorzaret‘s store we found a little jewel for those who do not forgive the lunch closing cremaet: a hand-cut, hand-sewn and hand-made leather case to carry the basic elements to prepare a coffee so own.
Solidarity Calendar – by Eina Cultural
This project aims to raise funds for the people affected by the dana and is created in the form of a calendar, to “ensure that the impact of this tragedy is not diluted with the passage of time”. To illustrate each month, Eina Cultural has had professionals of the stature of Aitana Carrasco (Paiporta), Ángel Martínez (Alaquàs), Caña (Picanya), Clara-Iris (Picanya), Cristina Durán (Benetússer), Diego Mir (Picanya), Elías Taño (Alfafar), Fernando Ortuño (Massanassa), Steven Scicluna y Sara de la Mora (La Torre) and Ximo Roca (Castellar), as well as Dani Nebot and Pepe Gimeno.
“Valencia stool” – by Patricia Urquiola for Andreu World
Design and solidarity also come together in this stool designed by the great Patricia Urquiola for Andreu World, a Valencian company that will donate the profits from its sales to the people and communities affected by the recent climate catastrophe. This piece is made by 3D printing with a biological, biodegradable and compostable material.
A new edition of “Ruta Gráfica” – by Barlin Libros
The union of design and “bacalao” continues to be a perfect gift. The third edition of “Ruta gráfica. El diseño del sonido de Valéncia” comes out of the printing press on time to reach the homes of all those people who want to know better those 80’s in València. Through the pages of this book the collective imaginary is recovered in relation to music, but also and very strongly, the particular aesthetics and graphics that accompanied this great underground movement.
Print “with everyone’s help forward” – by Xavier Mariscal
Through an exclusive donation to Intermón Oxfam, the multifaceted artist Xavier Mariscal joins the many solidarity initiatives for the affected areas of Valencia. A unique illustration where a red and collective heart stands out against the so representative image of the last two months.
Selected lamps – by LZF Lamps
The Valencian company of handmade wooden lamps, LZF lamps, offers a 30% discount on three selected models as a solidarity initiative. Two table lamps and one ceiling lamp, with the essence of such a recognizable and desired brand.
