With this historic step, our Design Foundation reaffirms its commitment to promoting design and the internationalization of the Region of Valencia, ensuring that this territory continues to be a global benchmark in the field of design and innovation.
Valencia continues to write its history in design and creativity on a global scale. The Design Foundation has managed – throughout its trajectory – to position the city within the main international networks and organizations in the sector. The latest unprecedented milestone was achieved this February, as the European organization BEDA (Bureau of European Design Associations) has included the Design Foundation as a member in the category of design promotion entity.
By joining BEDA, the Design Foundation strengthens its international voice within an organization founded in 1969 and headquartered in Brussels. This non-profit association is dedicated to promoting the value of design and innovation in the European economy, fostering a permanent connection between its members – currently over 50 in 28 European countries – and the European Union authorities. Being part of this network, which includes design organizations as well as professional and trade associations, allows the Fundació to continue driving the value of Valencian design internationally, connecting with other key organizations, and contributing to the sector’s development with an innovative and committed vision.
The Region of Valencia positions itself at the forefront of European and global design.
The Design Foundation is also a member of the World Design Organization, a partner of the New European Bauhaus initiative by the European Commission, and collaborates with the Valencia City Council in developing the Valencia City of Design project for UNESCO as part of the Creative Cities Network. This unprecedented international presence of a Valencian entity translates into global visibility for Valencia as a creative and design city following its designation as World Design Capital in 2022.
It was precisely after the momentum gained from that designation as World Design Capital 2022 that the Design Foundation has continued to build a legacy that transcends borders, ensuring València’s international projection as a hub of innovation, creativity, and design. These recognitions reflect the ongoing efforts to promote design as a tool for social, economic, and cultural transformation.
The recognition of Valencia as a UNESCO Creative City in the Design field, its connection to the New European Bauhaus and its participation in major European and international design networks further solidify the Comunitat Valenciana’s influence on the global stage. This milestone will strengthen the local creative economy, attract talent, and open new opportunities for the design sector in the Region of Valencia.
